How Do I Choose the Best HTML Font Style?

Hypertext Markup Language, commonly referred to as HTML, is a system of tags used in website design to create specific visual effects. One of the primary uses of HTML code is the decoration of text, such as underlining or highlighting links in a webpage or changing the HTML font style, color and size of the text. By choosing the appropriate HTML font style for your online text, you can emphasize the important points in your message, making it more appealing to the reader.

There are a few primary considerations when choosing the best HTML font style for website design. The basic tags used when working with HTML font styles are "normal," "italic" and "oblique." While these tags are not universally recognized by all web browsers, they are recognized and interpreted by the majority of popular web browsers. These HTML font style tags are used to create text that appears normally, is emphasized by italics or is slanted. While normal and italic tags are commonly supported, the oblique tag is commonly interpreted as an italic tag in many web browsers.

HTML font style tags also give the website designer the option to change the font being used to match the personality or professionalism of the website. By using an HTML editor to create websites with a variety of font faces, web designers are able to achieve uniquely designed visual effects for websites. The caveat to this advantage is the display of the font face will revert to the default font if the designer's chosen font face is not already installed on the end user's computer, in effect, making the additional HTML coding useless to the end user and slowing the load time of the website.

By combining HTML font style tags, such as a cartoon font face in a larger text size with bold or italic attributes, the website designer can create headings or other eye-catching areas on the webpage that draw the end-user's attention to a specific focal point. The addition of contrasting colors, such as highlighting important phrases or links with vivid yellow or red, can further emphasize important areas of the website.

Website design is largely a matter of personal taste, and amazing websites can be created using HTML font style tags. When over-used, these attention grabbing font styles can make a page look unprofessional, or worse, make the end-user feel like they are being yelled at. When using HTML font style tags to get attention, be conservative to ensure you are not driving your website visitors away by shouting at them. By choosing font styles that match the feeling you want your website to evoke, and applying them conservatively, you can create one of a kind websites that really command attention.
